U.S. parents have baby in Canada how long does it take to get the baby's birth if CERT for everyone to return to the U.S.?
My grandchild was born recently in Canada to their parents are U.S. citizens throughout his life. They were visiting friends in one day and thinking of moving to Canada when the baby came before. They have not received a birth certificate yet. People have told me it takes up to a year to get one, how they will return to U.S. with baby. Does it really take so long? U.S. Concerned Grandma
It takes nothing like a year. That is nonsense. Parents have to go to the Embassy U.S. or the Canadian Consulate and request a DS-240 Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. citizen and a passport for the baby. If you have birth registration Baby foreigners and their own evidence of U.S. citizenship, must obtain the report within days of birth and passport in a week. The Report of Birth is USA Baby official birth certificate of his life. It may be that, because they are in Canada, returning to the U.S. is simpler than returning to another foreign country. It may not even need a passport to bring the baby home. Each embassy and consulate of Canada has a website with contact information and others.
