If you go to File-> Save As ... Photoshop will save it as a default document (PSD). This file usually only be opened by Photoshop. To save it as another format (like JPG) go to File-> Save As ... and the bottom is a dropdown menu called "format". Here you can choose the format. Select "JPEG". When asked about all the details just set the quality to 10 (high) and do not worry until you learn more. Note Important: JPG files lose quality when saving, so strongly recommend keeping the original as PSD if you intend to make further changes in the image. - If you are saving small images for use on a website must save the image with File-> Save For Web & Devices. Try the preset called "JPEG High" for the photos.
